Spawell Licensed Premises ceases trading with the loss of 32 jobs

Wednesday 12 August 2009

Mandate Trade Union has confirmed today that CB Taverns, trading as the Spawell Licenced Premises, has ceased trading as of last night, Monday, 10 August 2009 with the loss of 32 jobs.

Mandate, which represents the 32 staff members in the company, say they were informed this morning of the situation but that no information has been given as to whether the company would be going into liquidation and if redundancy would be provided to staff members.
Mandate’s Divisional Organiser, Eddie Cassidy said: “The company has not clarified the situation for either the union or the staff members. At the moment most of the workers are owed approximately one months pay, including two weeks wages, holiday pay and wages for three days worked this week.
“We have scheduled a meeting with the company to take place this Friday where Mandate will be setting out its agenda on behalf of the staff members. We are hopeful that CB Taverns will pay the workers the money owed and give appropriate compensation. If we do not receive a positive response from the meeting we will need to look at all the options available to us and proceed in the best interests of our members.”
