To: All Retail Companies That Employ Mandate Trade Union Members
Re: Current Bad Weather
I am writing to you regarding the current weather situation in an effort to determine your operational plans particularly over the next 48 hours.
As you would expect we have received numerous queries from our members this morning and I think everybody would agree that greater clarity regarding their employers response to the worsening weather would assist them and their families greatly in making arrangements for the next number of days along with ensuring their personal health and safety is fully protected as they attempt to travel to and from work.
I am conscious at this stage that the weather situation has not impacted identically across the country however the most recent forecasts are predicting a considerable expansion and worsening of conditions nationwide. I also attach for your attention copy of a press release issuedby the Union yesterday the contents of which are self-explanatory.
An early response outlining your intentions in the above regard would be much appreciated.
Regards
Gerry Light
