Mandate condemn murder of Charlie Hebdo journalists and police officers

Mandate Trade Union has condemned the senseless killing of twelve innocent people including Charlie Hebdo journalists and two police officers in Paris this week.
Mandate General Secretary John Douglas said: “All workers have the right to go to work and arrive home safely. Nobody should lose their life as a result of their employment, and certainly not at the hands of another individual.
He added, “Mandate wishes to express our sincere condolences at this difficult time to the family, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives. We stand in solidarity with the people of Paris and France.”
Mandate members are invited to attend a commemoration for those murdered this week at the Dubh Linn Garden, Dublin Castle, tomorrow, Saturday (10th January) at 11am.
NUJ General Secretary, Seamus Dooley, said: “At this event people will commemorate the lives of those murdered this week and stand in solidarity with the people of France at this time”.
The event will be attended by His Excellency Jean-Pierre Thébault, French Ambassador to Ireland, who will deliver a brief address along with the Cathaoirleach of the Irish Executive Council of the NUJ, Gerry Curran.The event will last no more than 45 minutes.
