Mandate Endorses Catherine Connolly for President of Ireland
Monday 6 October 2025The National Executive Committee (NEC) of Mandate Trade Union – which represents over 20,000 bar and retail workers across the country – at its meeting yesterday (Sunday, 5 October) decided to endorse Catherine Connolly’s candidature for President of Ireland.
In making its decision, the NEC cited Ms Connolly’s consistently supportive stance on collective bargaining and workers’ rights.
In this context, the NEC noted that Catherine Connolly was the only presidential candidate who attended the recent Respect at Work campaign event in the Oireachtas AV Room.
Finally, the fact that Ms Connolly has the support of all of the left wing parties and left independents was also a factor in the NEC’s decision.
On foot of the NEC’s decision yesterday, the union will be making direct contact with all of its members urging them to give their No 1 vote to Catherine Connolly on 24 October next.
