Mandate launch survey on sub minimum rates of pay
Monday 29 July 2024Mandate Trade Union has today (Monday, 29th July 2024) launched a survey to establish public attitudes on the current sub-minimum rates of pay for young workers.
The Union has been campaigning for the abolition of these rates for a number of years and say they are discriminatory and damaging to young workers.
The current National Minimum Wage is €12.70 per hour. However, a worker who is 19 years of age can be paid €11.43 per hour; 18 years of age €10.16 per hour; and under 18 years of age €8.89 per hour.
For a worker it can lead to a loss of over €150 per week based on a 40 hour week.
Mandate is asking all workers to take two minutes to complete this survey as part of their campaign to abolish the unfair, unequal and discriminatory measure which exploits young workers.
