The Penneys National Negotiations Team has issued an update for all members in Penneys.
Your claim for a pay increase will be heard at a Labour Court hearing next Tuesday (4 June 2013).
The Penneys National Negotiations Team, elected by Mandate members in Penneys, are seeking a 3% pay increase back-dated to July 2012, partly to compensate for increased costs of living during the past number of years.
Your representatives are also pursuing a certainty of earnings clause which would help to protect established weekly hours and earnings for you and your family.
Mandate Assistant General Secretary Gerry Light said this may be done through the implementation of a banded hour’s arrangement, similar to those Mandate has already negotiated with other retail employers and are being operated successfully both for the employer and their employees.
He said, ”A banded hours contract would ensure Penneys workers could better plan their lives by having a steady level of hours and therefore income.”
Also included in the claim is the abolition of the under 18 rate of pay which still exists in Penneys. This means workers at Penneys who are under the age of 18 receive only 70% of the pay that older workers receive.
Mr Light said, ”The Penneys National Negotiations Team, which is elected by our members in Penneys, are committed to pursuing these claims vigorously on behalf of all our members.
“We have given a commitment that we will keep all our members informed of any developments as they arise and we will do so in due course,” he said.
