Mandate Trade Union has written to the Health & Safety Authority regarding concerns raised by workers in several stores throughout Ireland.
The Union has written to the company on more than one occasion to seek a meeting in order to resolve the issues of concern but the company has failed to respond in any way to those very reasonable requests from the workers’ representatives.
Dave Moran, Divisional Organiser for Mandate said, “We wrote to the company on 4th March in relation to concerns raised by our members employed in Lidl stores countrywide. We informed the company that they have a duty of care towards their employees in terms of Safety, Health and Welfare at Work 2005, Section 8.
“We had requested an immediate meeting with the company due to the very serious nature of the reports and the dangers they pose on our members. However, following the company’s failure to respond, we have now written to the Health & Safety Authority.”
Mandate’s letter to the company informing them of their correspondence with the Health & Safety Authority states the following:
“Given the above and the fact that the company have chosen to ignore the concerns legitimately raised on behalf of our members, we will as we stated previously, now refer the matter directly to the Health and Safety Authority, seeking an immediate inspection of all shops to ensure they meet the necessary standards. “
Mandate will update members as the issue progresses. Please share this information with your co-workers.
