Strike Action has been deferred as UCD Students Bar staff receive first of two payments

Tuesday 2 October 2012

Mandate Trade Union announced strike action on UCD Students Bar, Belfield has been deferred after staff received the first payment of two that had been previously agreed upon.
Joe Donnelly, Mandate Divisional Organiser said,” We received a commitment that the money due to our members will be paid in two tranches, the first of which they have received today. The second payment is due within the next 10 days; strike action has been deferred until the second payment has been made. We will continue to monitor this situation.”
On why strike action had been called Mr Donnelly explained “After being informed of the bars closure we entered into negotiations. However, the terms that we agreed upon on the 15th of August were not honoured and our members had not received their redundancy payments and outstanding wages.”
Strike notice was served on September 21st and was planned to commence on Tuesday the 2nd of October.
Mr Donnelly concluded: “We are glad that the workers have received their first overdue payment.” Mandate will continue to be committed to making sure our members receive their entitlements.”
