Mandate Trade Union comes out to condemn 130 million HSE cuts

Tuesday 4 September 2012

Mandate Trade Union’s General Secretary John Douglas has come out to condemn cabinet ministers over the recently announced 130 million euro health cuts.

The cuts which were announced on Thursday by the HSE will heavily affect the disabled and elderly with cuts to home help and community based services.

Mr Douglas commented “In light of yesterday’s €600 million bondholder payment to Anglo Irish Bank, the 130 million health cuts are preposterous.”

He continued: “With this move the government has truly targeted the most vulnerable in our society. It shows undoubtedly that their loyalty lies with the bondholders and not with the well being of the sick, elderly and disabled of Ireland.”

He finished: “It is unfathomable that 600million euro can be paid to bondholders, when the health budget is being slashed.”
