Mandate secure deal on unpaid wages for La Senza workers and bring sit-in to an end
Wednesday 25 January 2012Mandate Trade Union secured an agreement with La Senza administrators KPMG on unpaid wages for workers which brought an end to the sit-in at the company’s Liffey Valley store in Dublin.
A total of 114 workers in eight outlets across Ireland were made redundant after the chain went into administration earlier in the month. The workers had not been paid for work and overtime over the busy Christmas period and were told that they may have to wait up to a year for statutory redundancy payments.
“Following intervention by Mandate on behalf of La Senza employees we received a letter from La Senza’s administrators KPMG, the contents of this letter were communicated to the workers and they were satisfied with what KPMG had to say and then decided to end their sit-in,” Mandate’s Divisional Organiser, Michael Meegan said.
Mr Meegan said that the situation at La Senza shows in a very clear way how important it is for workers to join a union and work together to achieve a just outcome for themselves and their families.
