Mandate Trade Union, SIPTU, Baker’s Union welcomes developments at High Court in Superquinn Case

Wednesday 27 July 2011

The three unions representing Superquinn’s 2,800 staff – Mandate Trade Union, SIPTU and the Bakers’ Union – have welcomed today’s developments at the High Court which saw the current directors of the business formally withdrawing their application for examinership. This now paves the way for the bid by the Musgrave Group to proceed pending approval by the Competition Authority.

Mandate Trade Union Assistant General Secretary, Gerry Light stated: “We welcome the decision by the Director’s not to proceed any further with their legal action. This can only be in the best interests of the Superquinn business and all the stakeholders associated with it, particularly our members

Gerry Light concluded “On the presumption that the Musgrave bid is granted approval by the Competition Authority we look forward to working with the new owners with a view to sustaining the jobs and terms and conditions of our members into the future”
