Superquinn Restructuring Proposals
Friday 13 February 2009Mandate shop stewards and officials are engaged in intense negotiations with representatives of Select Retail Holdings (owners of Superquinn) regarding a restructuring of Superquinn. Following a massive show of support by members for Mandate in a recent ballot on a Labour Court Recommendation, we have now met with the company to discuss how Mandate members can continue to play a vital role in sustaining the company. The discussions are lead by Assistant General Secretary Gerry Light and a team of activists from around the country. Gerry Light stated that workers in Superquinn have already contributed greatly to the survival of the company in the past, and are prepared to do so again in the future so long as the benefits of an “upturn” in the company’s fortunes are shared with workers.
