Congress Backs Settlement Goods Bill, Endorses Call for Expulsion of Israeli Ambassador

Wednesday 23 May 2018

A meeting today (May 23) of the Congress Global Solidarity Committee – attended by General Secretary, Patricia King and Senator Frances Black – discussed the ongoing situation in Palestine and trade union support for Senator Black’s Occupied Territories Bill. If enacted, this would ban the sale in Ireland of goods produced in the illegal settlements established by Israel on the land confiscated from Palestinians, over the course of their decades long year occupation of the Palestinian territories in the West Bank.

The Committee also endorsed the position of the Congress Executive Council last week on the recall of Irish diplomats from Israel and the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador in light of the appalling killings of unarmed protestors in Gaza recently.
