Dublin South West Division
IR Update Tesco Ireland
March 2011.

Dear Members,

Please see update below on some of the recent developments with regards to industrial relations matters within Tesco Ireland. Unfortunately recent events have indicated that we are in for another year of unilateral decisions being taken which affects our members.

Pay Talks

As previously, advised Tesco Ireland has failed to pay the increases due under the Towards 2016 Transitional Agreement (3.5% and 2.5%) and despite commitments given in the Labour Court, have since declared that any pay increase would have to be cost neutral. this has resulted in the issue being referred back to the Labour Court and a hearing has been arranged for the 3rd May at 2.30 p.m.  When a recommendation is issued it will be put to the members for their consideration.

Sick Pay Scheme:

The Company have been in correspondence with the union regarding the changes to the Sick Pay Scheme and hopefully progress can be made on this issue.  Meanwhile we will continue to pursue case to the appropriate Third Parties a number of which have been appealed to the Employment Appeals Tribunal. We will keep members informed of any further developments.

Reductions in Banded Hours:

There has been no progress on this issue to-date.  However, members are requested to use the Forum Agenda to obtain information regarding staff leaving and joining the Company and the bands that they have.

Management Re-structuring – Chargehands:

Following the Labour Court Hearing on the 11th January 2011, a recommendation was issued which stated the “Court does not recommend any change to the established package” (LCR 19989). The company wrote seeking clarification on two points to the Labour Court (copy of reply attached) and the clarification does not fundamentally alter the recommendation and we are now awaiting confirmation from Tesco of its acceptance of the recommendation.

Store Forums:

Following a meeting of the monitoring group comprising of representatives from the company and unions a process was agreed whereby the frequency of store forums will be observed and where they are not taking place on a monthly basis, stores will be asked to state the reasons why not. It is vital that all stores in the Division submit their forum minutes in the agreed format to the relevant official in the return envelopes which were recently forwarded to the Shop Stewards

Training:

An advanced Tesco specific shop stewards training course will take place on the 12th-14th September, closing date for receipt of applications is the 8th August 2011.

Easter Working Arrangements 2011

A document has been circulated detailing members entitlements over the Easter period please contact your local representatives should you have any queries regarding same.
